[2022 Korea Week] The Heart of Korea: Jeollabuk-do

[2022 Korea Week] The Heart of Korea: Jeollabuk-do Culture Day

Come check out the amazing traditional music and dance performances by the Jeollabuk-do Gugak Center on June 1st at the Lansdowne Park.

Jeollabuk-do Gugak Center is a provincial organization that preserve and create modern adaptations of traditional Korean music. Their performances will include Pansori, a form of Korean epic chant, Buchaechum (fan dance) and Samulnori, Korean Nanta performance featuring traditional instruments.

Their performance will being at 7PM but we have events starting from 4PM so don't miss out!

Date: Wednesday, June 1st
Location: Lansdowne Park, Plaza (1525 Princess Patricia Way)

With one foot in the world of tradition and another in glitzy upbeat pop, Ak Dan Gwang Chil (ADG7) is a multi-award winning group featuring three powerhouse female folk singers and a rich repertoire inspired by Korea's sacred, shamanic ritual music (gut) and beloved folk songs (minyo) of Hwanghae Province in the northern reaches of the Peninsula. Their powerful performances engage and immerse like no other, presenting the spiritual blessings and positive energy of traditional music in a thoroughly modern and often comical style.

[2022 Korea Week] K-Music & K-Cinema <Moving On> Screening (22.05.21)

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Centre held inaugural events, including a film screening and various performances for the ‘2022 Korea Week’ at Lansdowne Park, Ottawa on Saturday, May 21. The event was initially planned to take space outdoor, but the massive storm that swept Ottawa meant the event venue had to change. However, the bad weather did not stop Canadian’s love for Korean culture, with approximately 500 people attending the event despite the storm. Thank you for joining the event!! ❤

주캐나다 한국대사관과 주캐나다 한국문화원은 ‘2022년 한국주간’ 의 첫 번째 행사로 5월 21일 오타와 랜스다운 공원(Lansdowne Park)에서 한국 음악 공연과 한국 영화 상영회를 개최하였습니다. 5월 21일 오타와를 덮친 큰 규모의 폭풍우로 인해 실내로 장소를 옮겨서 진행하였으나, 500여 명의 관객들이 폭풍우를 뚫고 행사장을 찾아주셨습니다. 참여해주신 모든 분께 감사의 인사를 전합니다.❤

At one summer night, the sister and brother find their new home.
Okju and Dongju move into their grandpa’s house during their summer vacation after their father went broke. While young Dongju well adapts to his new home, Okju rather feels awkward about this new environment. Soon after their soon-to-be-divorced aunt also moves in, and as Okju spends time with her family, the house and her grandpa are starting to grow on her. However, when her grandpa gets sick, father and aunt decide to send him to the sanatorium and sell the house.

The KCC provides Hanji Craft on Jeollabuk-Do Culture Day on June 1 & June 2. Use hanji and flowers to create your own bookmark, as well as enjoy many other activities the Jeollabuk-Do Culture Day has to offer!
